ECP / EECP – Enhanced External Counterpulsation

Enhanced External Counterpulsation (EECP), also known as External Counterpulsation (ECP), is a non-invasive treatment designed to improve blood flow to the heart. It may be considered for selected patients experiencing persistent symptoms of chronic stable angina, particularly when symptoms continue despite conventional medical treatment and other interventions may not be suitable.

During treatment, inflatable cuffs placed around the legs and lower body inflate and deflate in synchronization with the heartbeat. This helps increase blood flow toward the heart and may encourage the development of alternative blood-flow pathways.

Potential benefits include:

Improved blood flow to the heart
Reduction in the frequency or severity of angina symptoms in appropriate patients
Improved exercise tolerance
Greater ability to perform everyday activities
A non-surgical treatment option for selected patients

A physician evaluation is required to determine whether EECP is appropriate for your individual condition.
